Common nicknames
From Video Credit Archive
This is a list of common nicknames and other personname variations. This page is for listing variable names that could show up in credits, but aren't likely meant to be anyone different than normal. It's to avoid listing variant names that are too predictable to label on the site. However, many nicknames derived from names alone aren't obvious, despite being predictable once known.
Listing rules
Before editing the page, here's some rules on what belongs in the sections below:
- Only nicknames based on the nicknamed person's pre-existing "full name" belong here. The reason is because it's impossible to predict any other kind of nickname from just a media work's credits/ other official public sources.
- For unpredictable and inconsistent nicknames, see the English variant names and Non-English variant names pages.
- Only list the three most common spelling variants per name.
- Unpredictable variant spellings can be added, even if there are already three name variants.
- Only list nicknames/ spellings that exist in reality, even if a fictional one would be plausible.
- Don't list multiple people going by names differing only by spelling, or whether or not one is using a nickname. They belong on the specific people's pages, with notes on how to distinguish the individuals outside of what names the wiki uses.
- However, do list it as a variant name on a respective media credits page., sho
- Don't list nicknames of groups, media works, characters in media. Put those on specific pages for the group/ media work/ character.
The tables below list the "regular" form for sorting, and are in alphabetical order. Sections are split by language; starting with the language of the wiki's version (in this case, English), and then all other languages in alphabetical order. The language split is based on names and nicknames used by a specific language's speakers, not what language a name or nickname came from.
Lastly, keep in mind there's some people who are formally named a nickname (such as Dick Gautier), and regular names that can double as nicknames (Kenny) even if they were not one originally. The etymology of any name is not important.
